Seemed like MacMath stuffing Donovan after a heavy touch in the 68th was the thing that got LD going. Before that, he was so-so. In the last 20 minutes he played more boldly and was much more effective, and the G's carved up Philly. I'm really encouraged by his comments after the game that if he's going to make mistakes, he wants them to be aggressive mistakes. Exactly. The Cobi Jones/Robbie Keane approach is good for some things.

Looking at Klinsmann's roster, I'd take Donovan over Kljestan and Zusi right now.

Anyway, on Wednesday's game: the first half was only a bit less awful than the previous two games. A little slow, intimidated or at least distracted by pressure, and too interested in barking at the ref.

I think Klinsman wants Donovan to play in the world cup with a chip on his shoulder. I think he wants everyone to feel like they have to earn everything. I think he wants the team to feel like they are building toward something. I think it is a lot of head games. Head games can pay dividends or they can backfire on you. Only time will tell.

Also, as I mentioned on an earlier post (but more appropriate here) watching MacMath stuff Donovan makes me feel like we will continue to have solid goalkeepers into the future.

Watching MacMath stuff Donovan last night makes me believe the US will continue to have strong goalkeepers into the foreseeable future. The US collegiate system maybe a disservice to forwards, but I think it pays dividends for goalkeepers.

Perfect illustration of why Robbie Rogers feels like he has to leave the game. How many other great players have we lost because of this crap?

I've been a long-time supporter of Gordo, but I'm zero tolerance. I'm done with him. He needs to figure out how to have a life that's not based on hating somebody. Ditto for all the players/fans/public who have some kind of messed up need to keep gay people down. It's got nothing to do with soccer.

Let's see: Gordo or Rogers. Who would I rather have on my team? Easy choice.

The American problem, the Irish problem, and in this game, the Galaxy problem: failure to finish out games. I can't tell if it's lack of conditioning, lack of desire, or loss of concentration, but opponents know it and count on it.

Welcome back, Landon Donovan. I for one am happy about it.

I've never gotten the whole hate-on-Donovan thing. If you don't like him, don't watch him. I want to see him play more. If he doesn't want to, hey, Jim Brown and Ted Williams quit at the peak of their careers as well, and we remember them as greats.

Donovan's a fallible human being who makes a living playing soccer. He's been everything between great and awful, mostly toward the great end of the scale. Certainly the most important position player in the history of the US and MLS game, tho one guy or another has been better for short periods of time.

I'd welcome Robbie Rogers back too, if he feels like he's up to it. His call.

Best. Game. Ever.

Fun to watch the players tippy-toeing around their turns and slippy-sliding when they tried to stop. Even more fun watching them try to dribble in 3 inches of snow. I loved it.

Still, a deserved victory. And Omar played pretty well for conditions, staying focused and blocking one of Costa Rica's two real chances.

I'm so tired of the hexagonal being referred to as a gauntlet. 4 of the 6 teams move on for God's sake! Try qualifying in Europe where you face good teams and actually have to do well to stay alive. France & Spain are in the same qualifying group and only one is assured of advancing. Cry me a river CONCACAF!

The club is in the final throws of a long earned spiral down the drain. As for the possible solution... a big fat case of "much too little and much too late." They have spent too much time trying to appeal to highly specialized markets. Trying to get hispanic fans in the seats of MLS matches is a noble cause but you cut your own throat when you market yourself to fans of one team in one country of the large hispanic population in the US. You make it worse when you limit the players you can attract in an international market place.

every year for the 5 years I have been a season seat holder it, next year will be better...well its next year again and this is the worst ever..the game atmosphere was boring, no sponsors for giveaways and fun outside the game, no Chiva girls to watch...it is obvious that the front office and staff have been gutted, with 1 or 2 workers doing the job of 6-7 people...its just a shell now..so sad...and yea, the crowd was like a weds night game..7000 people , no way!

I have to imagine Garber asks Vergara to sell every year, and every year, he has some new explanation about how his club will overcome and succeed. Why does Garber believe him anymore? Why does Vergara keep blowing his brains out year after year on MLS? He just doesn't understand how to do it, and at some point Garber has to stop letting Chivas USA damage the league year in and year out.
